How to replace CMOS battery
All PC motherboards have an on-board battery that feeds system configuration settings and time & date settings. CMOS is basically a chip that stores system configuration settings and time & date settings powered by CMOS battery .The estimated lifetime of a CMOS battery is around 10 years but it depends on usage and environment of your computer.
If your computer starts losing date and time settings or shows error related to CMOS it means that CMOS battery it to be replaced.
First try to leave your computer turned on for at least 24hrs it will charge the battery. If problem is still there try replacing CMOS battery its very easy.
Locating CMOS battery
Mostly a coin shaped CMOS battery is used in most PCs as shown in the following picture
Note down Specifications
Once you have located CMOS battery just simply note down battery specifications e.g voltage , chemistry etc.
Remove battery
Removing a coin shaped battery as shown in the picture above is relatively easy.Using your fingers pull it out of the container. Some batteries have a clip holding it down.In such a case you will have to move clip with one hand and pull the battery out with the other hand.
Not all PCs have a removable battery they allow you to insert a replacement.
Insert New battery
Now its time to buy a new battery and insert in the proper place. After inserting the battery you will need to reconfigure CMOS settings.
